Day 2 of ACTH
adrienne
3 shots down, 37 to go. She’s not thrilled with the whole process, but she’s taking it like a trooper.
In happier news, I think I have figured out this med’s cycle!
(One thing I’ve learned from my daughters being on close to two dozen meds between the two of them is that every medicine has a cycle. They either get wired, then sleepy or they get sleepy than wired… or some variation of the same. Oh, and some make them seriously cranky for portions of the cycle as well! Whenever another parent or doctor tells me the side effects are horrible, I tell them to make a journal of what happens and see if they see a pattern. Sometimes it’s as simple as giving a dose a few hours earlier than you have been and you’ll find you can deal with them a lot easier. For example, if you know they will cry for three hours, make that be first thing in the morning and the first part of the night so you can be in the best frame of mind to deal with it, etc.)
Sooo… after I got over my shock about having to do these injections again, I decided that I was going to write down everything this child did and I was going to figure out the pattern if it killed me. (Since not knowing the pattern would kill me anyway, lol.)
Take a look:
Wednesday
8:15am — first dose of medicine
(pretty loopy, then wired, then out of it by turn…)
11:30am — asleep for several minutes already… I was surprised and “dream gave” her regular meds
3:30 — awake, small bit of snack (pretty close to a regular length nap time for her)
6:35 — second dose of medicine
(same response as morning dose)
9:15 — gave regular meds
9:35 — out for the night… not a peep all night
Thursday
7:45 — her little head popped up when I checked on her since she was sleeping a bit later than normal. could have sworn she said “up.” Wishful thinking? Probably.
8:06 — second dose of medicine (Can you tell I decided to get exact to test my theory?), breakfast
(same med response as yesterday)
10:30 — other meds
11:06 — out like a light again… on the living room floor at that and hardly a stir when I put her to bed.
If this pattern holds, this is INSANE. I’m not a scheduler by nature, but darn it, if it works, then I’m all for it. I will be dogmatic about when that shot is given!
Oh, and did I mention that those infant gas drops are my best friend?! We didn’t get told to try them until we were two weeks into the drama last time, but when we did, it made a world of difference. So I started them up front yesterday… I forgot a dose last night and there was that crazy upset cry again. Gave them to her and she calmed down a bit. So yeah for simethecone.
I’ll keep you posted… Thanks for your prayers!
